Lexington Legends’ right-hander Nick Tropeano has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 16-22, SAL President Eric Krupa announced Monday.
Tropeano made one start during the week and pitched eight shutout innings at Kannapolis April 19. He was the winning pitcher in a 2-0 Legends victory. Tropeano allowed four hits, walked two and struck out nine.
For the season, Tropeano (1-0) has fanned 27 batters while allowing one run in 19 innings pitched. He is tied for second in the league in strikeouts, and his earned run average stands at 0.47.
Tropeano, 21, was a fifth round choice of the Houston Astros in the June 2011 draft. He pitched in college at Stony Brook University.
“Nick has been outstanding for the Legends, and it’s great to see him get this recognition from the league,” said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. “We’re looking forward to seeing him pitch on this next homestand.”
