Crowley Wins Player of the Year, Sowell Named Coach of the Year

Cambridge, Mass. -

Junior midfielder Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British Columbia) was a unanimous choice for America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. Crowley is the first player in school history to be named player of the year.

In addition, Rick Sowell was named Coach of the Year after leading the Seawolves to a 10-3 record and 5-0 in America East play. Sowell is the first SBU men's lacrosse coach to win the award since Lars Tiffany won it in 2005.

Crowley is joined on the first team by senior Tom Compitello (Hauppauge, N.Y.), junior Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia), senior Steven Waldeck (Levittown, N.Y.) and senior Charlie Paar (Huntington, N.Y.).

Crowley, also a unanimous choice for first-team honors, led Stony Brook with 65 points on 40 goals and 25 assists. He leads the country in points per game (5.0), and is fifth in goals per game (3.08). The 65 points are the fourth most in a season in school history.

Defensively, he has 82 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers to rank in the top 10 in the nation in both categories.

Paar has been Stony Brook's primary goalie this season. He's saved his best for conference play, as he has a 9.88 goals against average and a .553 save percentage. Against Albany, he held the Great Danes scoreless for 49:06, as Stony Brook posted its first shutout in 20 years with a 15-0 win.
