SEVENTH ANNUAL DOWNEY MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING A SUCCESS

A total of $40,000 raised

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's athletic department held the Seventh Annual Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey Memorial Golf Outing on Monday at the Hamlet Willow Creek Golf & Country Club. The outing raised $40,000 for the Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey Scholarship Endowment and Stony Brook football.
A total of 122 golfers took to the course in support of Stony Brook football and former Deputy Chief Downey, who died in the line of duty while helping others escape from the World Trade Center on Tuesday September 11, 2001. The outing included an 18-hole best-ball tournament, dinner, and a silent auction.
"It meant a lot to see all of the Stony Brook alumni and former football players showing their support for my dad and the Stony Brook football program," said Chuck Downey. "We had more than 30 alums in attendance this year and look forward to seeing even more in the years to come."
Earlier this football-season, the Raymond M. Downey Scholarship was awarded to sophomore linebacker Stephen Schwicke (East Patchogue, N.Y.) in a ceremony prior to the game against Elon.
