MEN'S SOCCER BATTLES ALBANY TO 0-0 TIE

Seawolves host Maine on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm

Albany, N.Y. - Senior Dawid Ditrich (Gdansk, Poland) made seven saves and shut down one of the nation's top offenses as the Stony Brook men's soccer team tied New York State and America East rival Albany, 0-0 in two overtimes, on Wednesday afternoon at Albany's Varsity Field. The Seawolves snap their pointless streak and are now 2-10-2, 0-2-1 in conference play while Albany is 8-3-1, 2-1-1.
"To get a point away from home is crucial," head coach Cesar Markovic said. "I think our team is going in the right direction going home for two games in a row."
Albany, which entered Wednesday's tilt with the nation's seventh ranked offense, was stymied by Ditrich and the Stony Brook defense. Ditrich made three first-half saves for Stony Brook, which only managed two shots on goal on its end of the field.
The Seawolves best opportunities came late in the game after freshman Jherrett Maroney (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) and junior James Palumbo (Carmel, N.Y.) hit the post on scoring chances.
Albany's best chance to score came in the second overtime period when a header by Albany's Konner McNamara went wide following a corner kick by Mikael McNamara.
Stony Brook returns home to face Maine at LaValle Stadium as part of homecoming weekend on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is slated for 1 pm.
