SBU MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SET TO OFFICIALLY OPEN PRACTICE

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's and women's basketball teams will hold their first official practices of the 2008-09 season this weekend at Pritchard Gymnasium. The men will hold their first practice on Friday at 5 p.m. with the women beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The men return seven letter winners including senior forward Demetrius Young (Sacramento, Calif.), who led the America East with a .638 field goal percentage last season in addition to ranking fifth with 6.7 rebounds per game. The Seawolves also welcome a highly-rated recruiting class that includes four players that won state championships in high school.
The women welcome back nine letters winners from last year including sophomores Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) and Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.). Jeter averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season on her way to earning America East All-Rookie honors while Horsey became the first freshman since Jessica Smith '07 to start every game.
The teams open the 2008-09 season with a doubleheader on Friday, November 14th at Pritchard Gymnasium. The women will face Quinnipiac University at 5 p.m. followed by the men's team taking on Maryland-Eastern Shore. The doubleheader also marks the return of Stony Brook basketball to its former home, Pritchard Gymnasium, which underwent a million dollar renovation over the summer.
