Defense tops Offense, 39-13, in annual STONY BROOK FOOTBALL Spring Game

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook football team concluded spring practice Sunday with its annual spring game. The defense (red) outlasted the offense (white), 39-13, in a modified scoring system.The offense scored points the conventional way - six points for a touchdown, a point for a PAT and three points for a field goal.
The defense scored points in four ways - four points for a stop before the offense crossed the 50-yard line; seven points for a stop with a turnover before the offense crossed the 50; two points for a stop after the offense crossed the 50 and three points for a stop with a turnover after the offense crossed the 50.
Sophomore Davon Lawrence (Central Islip, N.Y.) totaled 92 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense. Senior Kevin Norrell (Los Angeles, Calif.) caught five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Senior Kyle Essington (Chino Hills, Calif.) completed 10 of 16 passes for 174 yards and the touchdown to Norrell.
Senior Jordan Gush caught only two passes, but hauled in a 55-yard reception in the beginning of the second quarter.
Junior Lyle Negron (Bakersfield, Calif.) completed 4 of 7 passes for 58 yards, including a 37-yard strike to junior Myles Campbell (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).
Redshirt freshman Naim Cheeseboro (King of Prussia, Pa.) led the defense with nice tackles. Senior Dan Mulrooney (Prospect, Conn.) and sophomore Janna Chukumerije (New Rochelle, N.Y.) each recovered a fumble.


Redshirt freshman Victor Ochi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had six tackles, including two sacks.
