Stony Brook Athletics formally introduced new men's lacrosse head coach Jim Nagle and new women's lacrosse head coach Joe Spallina Tuesday at a press conference at Stony Brook's Goldstein Athletic Performance Center.
In front of an audience of over 100, including members of the media, family, friends, student-athletes and Stony Brook University faculty & staff, Athletics Director Jim Fiore formally introduced Spallina and Nagle, and President Samuel L. Stanley, Jr., M.D., made introductory remarks, speaking about the great progress Stony Brook Athletics has made.
Nagle, who grew up in the Three Village community and graduated from Ward Melville High School, joins Stony Brook after 10 years as head coach at Colgate, where he led the Raiders to their first-ever Patriot League Championship in 2008 and 10 or more wins in four of the last six seasons. In 2011, Nagle's Colgate squad was 11-5, reached the Patriot League Championship final and knocked off NCAA Championship runner-up Maryland.
Spallina, who graduated from Rocky Point High School in Rocky Point, N.Y., most recently led Adelphi to three consecutive NCAA Division II national championships in his four seasons as head coach. Spallina's record at Adelphi was an incredible 73-2, and at one point, he led the Panthers to 32 consecutive victories.
