Nick Tropeano selected in the 5th Round of the First-Year MLB Draft

Stony Brook, N.Y. – Stony Brook University junior right-hander Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.), was selected by the Houston Astros with the ninth pick of the fifth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Tuesday afternoon. The two-time All-American was the 160th overall selection.

The Seawolves have had 34 players sign professional contracts under head coach Matt Senk including 25 since the program jumped to Division I in 2000.

"We're extremely excited for Nick and his family," Stony Brook head coach Matt Senk said. "He has worked very hard for this and we wish him nothing but the best of luck in the future."

One of 25 finalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Pitcher of the Year Award, Tropeano set America East single season records for wins (12) and strikeouts (119). A two-time America East Pitcher of the Year, Tropeano ranked second in the country in victories and fifth in strikeouts per nine innings (11.52).

Tropeano led the 2011 Seawolves to their first America East regular season title and a school record 42 wins.
