Priore's contract extended through 2016

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook Director of Athletics Jim Fiore has announced that head football coach Chuck Priore has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the program through 2016. The extension adds three years to Priore's existing contract, as he agreed to a contract extension through the 2013 season in December 2009.
Priore recently completed his fifth season at Stony Brook, leading the team to a second-straight share of the Big South Conference Championship.
"Coach Priore continues to represent Stony Brook University and our athletic program with class and dignity, and under his outstanding leadership, Seawolves football is positioned to be one of the elite Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) programs in the country," Fiore stated. "We are fortunate to have someone with his passion, vision and energy leading our program. We have enjoyed a great deal of success in a short period of time and look forward to an even brighter future."
Priore, the Big South Conference Coach of the Year in 2009, has coached 22 All-Big South selections, the 2009 conference Defensive Player of the Year, Tyler Santucci, and a pair of first-team running backs the last two years - Conte Cuttino and Edwin Gowins in 2009 and Brock Jackolski and Miguel Maysonet in 2010. Jackolski and Maysonet were the only pair of teammates in Division I to each rush for more than 1,000 yards.

"I am excited about the future of our program and humbled by the opportunity to lead such a special group of coaches and student-athletes at one of the premier academic institutions in the country."


Since taking over as head coach prior to the 2006 season, Priore has ushered the Seawolves to a new era. The Seawolves have competed against elite FCS schools including Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Liberty with the NCAA maximum of 63 scholarships.
Stony Brook faced its first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent in South Florida last season, and will travel to face University of Texas at El Paso and Buffalo in 2011. Future schedules include Army, Boston College and Cincinnati.
Priore is 28-27 at Stony Brook and 67-36 overall. During conference play the last two seasons, the Seawolves are 10-2, and enjoy an 18-6 (.750) record at home under Priore.
