Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's basketball team lost to Hartford, 60-42, on Saturday afternoon in Pritchard Gymnasium. SeniorMisha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) scored a team-high 12 points for Stony Brook, but Jackie Smith went 6-for-6 from beyond the arc for a game-high 19 for Hartford. With the loss, Stony Brook is now 6-15 (4-5 America East) while Hartford improves to 18-3 (9-0).

"Give credit to Hartford's defense as they held us to just 29% shooting tonight," said head coach Michele Cherry. "We did a good job of keeping it close in the first half, but we gave their shooters too many open looks in the second."

Behind 56% shooting, Hartford opened a nine point advantage with 13:53 remaining in the first half on a layup by Ilicia Mathis. Stony Brook would force the Hawks into four turnovers during the next four minutes, however, as it fought its way back to within three at 14-11 on a pair of free throws from seniorJoia Daniels (Silver Spring, Md.).

Hartford's lead would grow to eight before Daniels and junior Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) helped the Seawolves make a late rally. With 2:49 remaining Daniels would knock down a baseline jumper off an inbounds play to pull within four. On the Hawks next possession, a steal by Jeter led to a layup from Horsey to put the score at 21-19 with just over two minutes remaining.

After connecting on three-of-five three point attempts in the first half, the Hawks nailed three triples early in the second half to move in front by 13 with 14:34 remaining. Hartford's touch from the outside continued throughout the half as they finished the game connecting on 8-of-12 attempts, led by Jackie Smith's 6-for-6 performance.
