Brevi, West Earn Big South Honors

Brevi Sets LaValle Stadium Record for Return Yards

Charlotte, N.C. - For a second week in a row Stony Brook football players have been recognized by the Big South Conference for their play with Player of the Week Awards. It was announced today by the league that two Seawolves were honored; with junior safety Arin West (Toms River, N.J.) named the Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore receiver Matt Brevi (Tampa, Fla.) earning Special Teams Player of the Week honors. It is the first Player of the Week awards for each in their careers.

A wide receiver in his first year on the team, Brevi had an outstanding night both as a receiver and kick returner. Brevi could not be stopped on kick returns as he ran back three kickoffs for 59, 36, and 51 yards, with his first return setting up Stony Brook's first touchdown of the game. His 140 return yards set a LaValle Stadium record and he became the second player in Big South Conference history to have two returns of 50+ yards in a game. He also led the team with five catches for 76 yards, with three of his receptions coming on the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter.

West matched his career-high with 11 tackles against Brown while picking up his first career interception in the 21-20 win over the Bears. He had nine solo stops, and his interception in the end zone halted a 62-yard Brown drive that threatened to give the Bears a 14-point lead in the second quarter.
