Stony Brook University's Athletics Department officially welcomed new SUNY Chancellor, Nancy L. Zimpher, when she visited the Stony Brook campus this week. Director of Athletics, Jim Fiore, joined Stony Brook President, Dr. Samuel L. Stanley Jr., along with student-athletes Conte Cuttino(Football), Gulce Nazli Dikecligil (Volleyball), Amy Hallion (Women's Lacrosse), Jenna Spenard (Women's Lacrosse) and Steven Waldeck (Men's Lacrosse) in presenting Zimpher with a Stony Brook jersey.
Zimpher was named the State University of New York's 12th Chancellor in February and began her duties on June 1. The former President of the University of Cincinnati, Zimpher is the first women to be named Chancellor in SUNY's 60-year history. She holds a bachelor's degree in English Education and Speech, a master's degree in English Literature, and a Ph.D. in Teacher Education and Higher Education Administration, all from The Ohio State University.
The State University of New York is the largest comprehensive university system in the United States, educating nearly 440,000 students in 7,669 degree and certificate programs on 64 campuses.
