Stony Brook Football Players Honored By Big South Conference for Academics

13 Selected To Big South Presidential Honor Roll

Charlotte, N.C. - Stony Brook University's football team saw 13 of its players honored by the Big South Conference when the league announced that the group have been named to the 2008-09 Big South Presidential Honor Roll. Included in the group are four seniors that will play on the 2009 squad; offensive lineman Jeff Santos (Irvine, Calif.), quarterback Dan Sweeney (Niskayuna, N.Y.), tight end Chris Tyler (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and offensive lineman Markell Watson (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently-completed academic year. A pair of players who graduated from the squad last season was included in the list, with Luke Gaddis '09 and Michael Meadows '09 earning the distinction.
Rounding out the Stony Brook selections were sophomore offensive lineman Mario Dattilo (Centereach, N.Y.), sophomore kicker Josh Gibson (Reisterstown, Md.), sophomore quarterback Dayne Hoffman (Ida, Mich.), junior tight end Adam Love (Lewisberry, Pa.), redshirt freshman kicker Matt Luby (Sharon Springs, N.Y.), redshirt freshman defensive back Dominick Ryes (Hesperia, Calif.) and junior linebacker Stephen Schwicke (East Patchogue, N.Y.).
