Seawolves to play St. John's and Hofstra
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's volleyball team will face teams from eight different conferences over its 26-match schedule during the 2009 season. The Seawolves 2009 schedule, which was released today by head coach Deborah Matejka-DesLauriers, includes five home America East matches and two opponents who made the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Stony Brook will also play a long awaited rematch with Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y.
SBU will open its season during the final weekend of August at the Maryland Tournament where they will face Maryland, Villanova and Youngstown State. The Seawolves return home for a match-up with St. John's before heading back on the road for the Harvard Invitational.
One of the highlights of the 2009 schedule will be an away match against Long Island rival Hofstra on Tuesday Sept. 8th. Having met only twice prior to this season, the Seawolves have not played Hofstra in volleyball since 1999 when they swept the Pride, 3-0.
Stony Brook spends the rest of the month of September on the road competing in the Columbia Invitational and Brown Invitational as well as facing Manhattan and Long Island University in single matches.
An away match with Hartford on October 2nd kicks off the Seawolves America East schedule which wraps-up with the University of New Hampshire on November 14th. This year's America East Championship will be held on the weekend of November 20th.
