STONY BROOK MEN PICKED NINTH IN AMERICA EAST POLL


Seawolves host Maryland-Eastern Shore to open season on Nov. 14th.

Albany, N.Y. - Stony Brook's men's basketball team was picked ninth in the 2008-09 America East preseason coaches poll released at the conference's annual media day on Monday afternoon.
Boston University was picked as the preseason choice to win the conference title in 2008-09. The Terriers received five first-place votes for a total of 59 points, outdistancing Vermont (55 points, four first-place votes), Hartford (51) and defending conference champion UMBC (45). Binghamton was selected fifth with 37 points followed by Albany (30 points), New Hampshire (24), Maine (13) and SBU (10).
Stony Brook returns seven letter winners including senior forward Demetrius Young (Sacramento, Calif.) who led the America East with a .638 field goal percentage last season in addition to ranking fifth with 6.7 rebounds per game. The Seawolves also welcome a highly-rated recruiting class that includes four players that won state championships in high school.
The Seawolves open up the 2008-09 campaign on Friday, Nov. 14, hosting Maryland-Eastern Shore as part of a season-opening doubleheader with the women's team. The men's game will tip-off following the women's game against Quinnipiac which begins at 5 p.m. The doubleheader will also mark the return of Stony Brook basketball to its former home, Pritchard Gymnasium, which underwent a million dollar renovation over the summer.
