NAVARRETE SIGNED TO PLAY IN MEXICO


Ducks outfielder heads to Tabasco

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 9, 2008) – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced that outfielder Ray Navarrete has had his contract purchased by Tabasco (AAA) of the Mexican League. Navarrete has been compiling a career season in 2008, batting .362 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI in just 39 games. He leads the Atlantic League in homers, runs scored (39), extra-base hits (25) and slugging percentage (.678), and is second in RBI and doubles (13).

“We’ll definitely miss Ray for his contributions both on and off the field,” says Ducks general manager Michael Pfaff. “Ray has been a credit to his teammates and to this organization. We wish him the best of luck and continued success.”

The New Jersey native is in his ninth professional season, and had his best campaign last year with Long Island, batting .307 with 67 RBI and a career-high 18 homers. He set Ducks single-season records in 2007 with 42 doubles and 62 extra-base hits, and the tied the team record with 104 runs scored. The Seton Hall graduate also spent 44 games with the Ducks in 2006, batting .284. The former Pirates and Mets prospect owns a career .284 batting average with more than 400 RBI in 880 minor league games.
