Freshman Brody Eastwood (Victoria, British Columbia) scored the game-winning goal with 40 seconds left in the third overtime as the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team (3-2) defeated Rutgers, 9-8, Saturday at the Rutgers Stadium Complex.
Eastwood took a pass from senior Jeff Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and beat Rutgers goalie Kris Alleyne over his left shoulder.
Stony Brook is over .500 for the first time under coach Jim Nagle.
Freshman Challen Rogers (Coquitlam, British Columbia) was outstanding, tallying three goals and three assists. Tundo added a goal and three assists for the Seawolves, who won the ground ball battle (29-26) for the first time this season.
Sophomore Mike Andreassi (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Chris Hughes(Oceanside, N.Y.) each recorded a pair of goals.
Freshman Dan Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with 10 saves.

Turning Point
- Rutgers worked the ball around on their final possession. Scott Klimchak, who led the Scarlet Knights with three goals and an assist, took an underhanded shot that Shaughnessy saved. After a successful clear, Tundo found Eastwood, who was rotating counter-clockwise around the crease for the score.
By the Numbers
- Freshmen Challen Rogers and Chris Hughes each tallied career-highs. Rogers finished the game with three goals and three assists and Hughes added two goals and an assist.
- Freshman Frank Lucatuorto won both of the overtime face-offs. There was not a draw in the second overtime because Stony Brook was man-down and got possession of the ball at the end of the first quarter, resulting in possession to start the second.
- Stony Brook held the biggest lead of the game, 3-1, after Hughes' second of the afternoon.
- The game featured six ties and seven lead changes.
- Senior Jeff Tundo already has 13 goals and 10 assists after five games. He finished last season with 17 goals and 28 assists.
- Stony Brook's midfield accounted for eight goals and six assists.

- Rutgers is 5-2 all-time against Stony Brook. Both of the Seawolves' wins were on the road.
- The win is Stony Brook's second straight over a Big East opponent. SBU defeated St. John's, 11-7, on Tuesday.
