O'Boyle names DeSorrento as assistant coach

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University head women's basketball coach Beth O'Boyle announced today that Kate DeSorrento has been hired as an assistant coach. DeSorrento comes to Stony Brook after spending last season as the head coach at Hamilton College.
DeSorrento will be involved in all aspects of the program and serve as the Seawolves recruiting coordinator.
"Kate brings a tremendous amount of experience in recruiting and on floor coaching," O'Boyle said. "She has a proven track record of success and I can't wait for her to get started."
In her one season at Hamilton, DeSorrento led the Continentals to eight victories and the third best scoring defense in the NESCAC (52.0 points per game).
Prior to being hired at Hamilton, DeSorrento served for three seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Rochester where she helped guide the Yellowjackets to a 68-18 record and three NCAA Division III championship appearances including a spot in the national semifinals in 2010.
A three-year letterwinner at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., DeSorrento led the Dutchwomen to a school record 24 wins and their first ever NCAA appearance in 2003-04.
She received a bachelor's degree in neuroscience with a history minor from Union in 2006 and will complete her master's in public health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in August
