Lucy Van Dalen '12 Van Dalen gearing up for Olympic competition.

Stony Brook alumna and track & field standout Lucy Van Dalen '12 is gearing up for her appearance in the 1500 at the 2012 Olympics in London. Last Friday, she participated in the Opening Ceremonies, representing her native New Zealand during the Parade of Athletes.
Van Dalen is set to run in the 1500 on Monday, Aug. 6 at 6:45 a.m., Eastern, 11:45 a.m., local, at Olympic Stadium in Stratford, which is just outside the London city center. Fans can watch the race live online at NBCOlympics.com. Fans will have to register and must be a paying cable customer in order to access the LIVE FEED.
Van Dalen is Stony Brook's most decorated student-athlete in history. She is a six-time All-American and winner of the mile at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championship, becoming the school's first-ever national champion. This year alone, she was named the America East Woman of the Year, the America East Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Stony Brook's Female Athlete of the Year.
Having already previously completed her undergraduate degree in sociology, Van Dalen recently finished her master's degree in liberal studies with a 4.0 GPA.
Van Dalen had an amazing run to London back in June when she shaved nearly six seconds off her time in the 1500 to qualify for the Olympics. She was officially named to Team New Zealand on July 4.
