Stony Brook started hot, never looked back and made history Wednesday night as four players reached double figures in a convincing 89-49 win over host University of Maryland Baltimore County in an America East game.
It was the sixth straight win for Stony Brook, which improved to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the league.
It is the Seawolves' best start in the America East since joining the conference in 2001, and their largest margin of victory since becoming a Division I program in 1999.
"I liked the way we played tonight," Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell said. "We played outstanding defense in the first half, and I liked our shot selection on offense. Everyone made positive contributions tonight, making it a total team effort. We now have to prepare for a tough Boston University team."
It was the most efficient game of the season for Stony Brook as every player on the roster scored.
Bryan Dougher led the Seawolves with 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting, Al Rapier and Marcus Rouse had 12 points each and Tommy Brenton chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Dallis Joyner had nine points and nine rebounds and Anthony Jackson scored nine points for the Seawolves.
Stony Brook led 41-19 at the half.
The hot shooting continued into the second half as the Seawolves, who shot a season-high 58.9 percent from the field, took an 83-43 lead with 3:22 to go.
Ryan Cook had 14 points and Brian Neller added 13 for UMBC (2-14, 1-3).
