Finding that dominant big man is not an easy thing to do for mid-major programs. Stony Brook certainly may have gotten over that hump as highly touted 6-7 power forward Jameel Warney signed a national letter of intent to play for the Seawolves next season.
Warney, out of Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey, averaged 17.5 points and 13.4 rebounds and 3.4 blocks. He was named the No. 5 recruit in New Jersey in the Class of 2012 by EKB Scouting Service and was the 49th best forward recruit in the nation according to ESPN.com.
Warney reportedly turned down Iowa and several other higher profile schools.
The Seawolves also inked 6-foot point guard Carson Puriefoy III from Bishop Eustace Prep in Wenonah, N.J. and 6-4 swingman Ryan Burnett out of Benedictine Prep in Richmond, Va.

“I am incredibly thrilled to bring in as talented a group of student-athletes as Stony Brook has ever seen,” Pikiell said. “Adding Carson, Jameel and Ryan to our roster is indicative of how far our program has come. Each player was my No. 1 recruiting target at his respective position, and I’m very happy to bring each of them into the Stony Brook family. With these student-athletes, plus our current outstanding group of players, we are prepared to annually compete for the America East Championship, a statement we were not able to make when I first got here.”
