Seawolves looking for first W (Newsday)

It's homecoming Saturday for Stony Brook. Will the hometown crowd be able to get the team going after three tough losses to UTEP, Buffalo and Brown? Those losses don't have an impact on Stony Brook's Big South schedule. That notwithstanding, the Seawolves need to be able to get a "W".
Lafayette at Stony Brook, 6 p.m.
Rose's pick: Lafayette is coming off its first win of the season, a 37-12 triumph over Pennsylvania. Stony Brook is looking for its first win. The Seawolves, however, went to overtime with UTEP, then played at Buffalo (another FBS opponent) and lost by a point to Brown last week at home. The bottom line: Stony Brook is due for a win. One matchup to watch is Stony Brook's rushing attack against Lafayette's defense. The Seawolves are ranked 16th nationally in rushing offense in the FCS (219 yards per game). Lafayette allows 146 yards per game on the ground. Miguel Maysonet, who is averaging 116 yards per game, could have a big day for Stony Brook. Stony Brook 23, Lafayette 17
Henry’s pick: Stony Brook’s losses to FBS opponents UTEP and Buffalo and then Brown won’t have any impact on the Seawolves bid to win the Big South. Neither will Saturday’s home game against Lafayette. That doesn’t mean Stony Brook can afford to keep racking up the losses. The feeling here is that Stony Brook’s hot RB tandem of Miguel Maysonet and Brock Jackolski will hit Lafayette from every angle. Maysonet ganed 161 yards on 23 carries and Jackolski added 80 yards on 17 tries in the loss to Brown. Lafayette is next to last in scoring and total offense in the Patriot League. The Leopards defense has been respectable, but it won’t be enough to stop Maysonet and Jackolski. Stony Brook 31, Lafayette 15.
