Men's Lacrosse Hosts Denver In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

Seawolves earn eighth seed in 16-team tournament

Indianapolis, Ind. - The pairings for the 2010 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament have been announced, and Stony Brook, the sixth-ranked team in the country, has drawn Denver in the first round. The Seawolves will host the Pioneers on Saturday evening at 5 pm in Stony Brook live on ESPNU and WUSB. SBU earned the #8 seed in this year's tournament while Denver is unseeded.
"In one word, excited; this is just unbelievable," head coach Rick Sowell said. "This is really the only goal we had going into the season. To have this opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament is the reward of having a season like we did."
Stony Brook earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by defeating Albany, 11-7, in the America East Championship Game on Saturday afternoon. Junior Kevin Crowley's (New Westminster, British Columbia) three goals and senior Charlie Paar's (Huntington, N.Y.) 18 saves helped the Seawolves capture their first title since 2002.
Denver, which is on a nine-game winning streak, defeated Stony Brook, 13-12, earlier this season. The Pioneers won the ECAC automatic bid with a 12-4 win over Loyola on May 2.
Tickets are available for Saturday's game at 10 am on Monday. For tickets and more information, please call (631) 632-WOLF or visit GoSeawolves.org.
Stony Brook will also host the Division I North Quarterfinals at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on May 23.
