Vestal, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's basketball team dropped its road contest with Binghamton, 74-58, on Saturday afternoon. SeniorCrystal Rushin (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored a career-high 14 points, but the Bearcats' balanced scoring attack and 54% shooting was just too much for the Seawolves. With the loss, SBU is now 3-12 (1-2 America East) while Binghamton improves to 4-10 (1-1).
"This is a frustrating loss because we had a chance to steal a game on the road," said head coach Michele Cherry. "We were close in the second half, but give Binghamton credit as they made their shots down the stretch."
Junior Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) got the Seawolves off to a hot start knocking down a pair of three's from the top of the key. Horsey's second three put SBU in front 8-3 at the 16:38 mark. While Horsey was knocking down shots from the outside, Rushin was taking care of the inside. She connected on her first three shot attempts as the Seawolves shot 75% during the first eight minutes of play and built a double-digit lead.
With Stony Brook leading 21-10 at the 12:16 mark, Binghamton put together a 16-2 run to take its first lead of the game at 26-23. Binghamton's Erica Carter, who knocked down a three to give the Bearcats the lead, connected on her third triple of the game with 7:09 remaining to extend the lead to six.
Following its hot start, the Seawolves made just three of their 11 field goal attempts during an 11 minute stretch as Binghamton's advantage grew to as many as nine. Freshman Amanda Corona (North Hollywood, Calif.) snapped the cold streak for the Seawolves by knocking down a corner three with just over a minute left in the half which pulled them within four.
Similar to the first half, Rushin had a strong start to the second, scoring the Seawolves' first six points. SBU continued to go inside for offense as sophomore center Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored back-to-back buckets, with the second pulling Stony Brook within one at 46-45 with 13:11 remaining.

Stony Brook trailed by just three with 6:41 left before the Bearcats rattled off ten unanswered points. Binghamton, which shot 46% from beyond the arc, knocked down two of its six threes during the scoring streak. America East Player of the Game Viive Rebane was one of five Bearcats to score in double-figures, finishing with 13 points and ten rebounds. Rushin's career scoring total and five rebounds were enough to earn her Player of the Game for SBU.
