STONY BROOK STUDENT-ATHLETES POST GPA OVER 3.0 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR


Seawolves student-athletes post 3.05 GPA for 2008-09 Academic Year.

Cambridge, Mass. - Stony Brook University's student-athletes posted a combined GPA of 3.05 during the 2008-09 academic year, its third straight year with an overall GPA above 3.0. SBU's men's tennis team was recognized for recording the highest GPA of any America East men's program, finishing with a combined 3.51.
Along with men's tennis, Stony Brook had four teams post the highest GPA among the America East schools. Baseball (3.01), softball (3.33), women's indoor track & field (3.32) and women's outdoor track & field (3.32) all led their respective sports in GPA.
More than 3,200 student-athletes competed at nine America East institutions in the 2008-09 season. The conference's student-athletes compiled an average of 3.05 on the team grade-point averages, which were calculated by dividing the total team quality points by the total credits completed for grade. The overall institutional GPAs were calculated using the same formula for all student-athletes at each respective school.
