Stony Brook University Men's Basketball Announces 2008-09 Schedule

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Road contests against nationally-ranked Connecticut and Air Force, along with a 14-game home slate at newly renovated Pritchard Gymnasium that includes a match-up with Long Island rival Hofstra, highlight the 2008-09 Stony Brook men's basketball schedule released by head coach Steve Pikiell on Thursday.

"I think our non-conference schedule is very competitive and will give us a good idea of things we need to work on and get us ready to play in a very tough America East conference," Pikiell said. "I also think we have some good, competitive home opponents for our fans to see in what will be a terrific atmosphere in Pritchard Gymnasium."

The Seawolves open the season on Nov. 14 against Maryland-Eastern Shore, returning to its former home, Pritchard Gymnasium, which underwent a million dollar renovation over the summer. Stony Brook will then hit the road to take on Lafayette (Nov. 14) before returning home to take on Wagner (Nov. 22) and 2008 NCAA Tournament participant American (Nov. 25).

After road contests with Columbia and New Jersey Tech, the Seawolves will play three straight games at home highlighted by a showdown with Long Island rival Hofstra on Dec. 10. Stony Brook then embarks on a five-game road trip that includes match-ups with Connecticut (Dec. 15), Air Force (Dec. 31) and the conference opener against defending America East champion UMBC (Jan. 3).

Stony Brook opens its home conference slate on Jan. 8 against Maine before traveling to take on Dartmouth on Jan. 13 in its final non-conference game of the season. Vermont comes to Stony Brook on Jan. 17 followed by a two-game road swing against Boston University (Jan. 19) and Albany (Jan. 23). The Seawolves then return home for five of their next six games as Hartford (Jan.25), UMBC (1/31) and Albany (2/12) make their first trips to Pritchard Gymnasium.

SBU will travel to take on Vermont on Feb. 15 before hosting BU in their final home contest of the season on Feb. 18. Stony Brook wraps up its regular season schedule with trips to Hartford (2/26) and New Hampshire (3/1).
