GADDIS, GOWINS NAMED TO BIG SOUTH WEEKLY FOOTBALL HONORS




Charlotte, N.C. - Senior kicker Luke Gaddis (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and freshman running back Edwin Gowins (Bellport, N.Y.) were both named to Big South Conference weekly football honors the league announced today. Gaddis was selected Special Teams Player of the Week, while Gowins was tabbed the Freshman of the Week for their performances in Stony Brook's 20-19 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday. It was the third time this season Gowins has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Gaddis was perfect in the kicking game for Stony Brook and led the team with a season-high eight points. He was 2-of-2 on field goals, connecting from 37 yards in the second quarter and from 25 yards in the third period. His first field goal gave Stony Brook its first lead in the game against CSU, while the second kick tied the contest at 13-13. Gaddis' final PAT with 1:06 remaining proved to be the winning margin for the Seawolves. Gaddis is now tied for second all-time in SBU history with 21 career field goals.
Gowins turned in a strong game for Stony Brook with 97 rushing yards on 10 carries to help the Seawolves come back and defeat Charleston Southern for its first Big South win. He was a key offensive component on a pair of scoring drives, with his 57-yard run on 3rd-and-1 early in the third quarter a key play on a drive that ended with Gaddis' field goal that tied the game at 13-13. On the game-winning drive, Gowins twice ran for first downs to keep the drive alive. Five of his 10 rushes on the day resulted in first downs, while his 9.7 yards per carry made the top-10 single-game list at Stony Brook.
