STONY BROOK FOOTBALL ADDS FBS OPPONENTS TO FUTURE SCHEDULES

Seawolves Schedule Games With South Florida, Buffalo and Army

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's football team will make history in 2010 when the Seawolves travel to Tampa, Florida to play Big East Conference member the University of South Florida Bulls in their first-ever game against a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent. The game is one of three future contests against FBS institutions (formerly known as Division IA). Stony Brook Director of Athletics Jim Fiore also announced today that in addition to South Florida, the Seawolves will play at University of Buffalo in 2011 and Army in 2012.

"We are very excited about adding these programs to Stony Brook's future football schedules," said Fiore. "The opportunity to play football programs of this caliber is the next logical step forward for our athletic program. These contests will be events that the entire Stony Brook University community, student-athletes, alumni and fans will look forward to with great excitement and passion."

Stony Brook and South Florida will square off on September 4, 2010 in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Bulls, members of the Big East Conference, have quickly grown into one of the top programs in the Big East. In only 11 seasons, South Florida has gone from not sponsoring a football program to one that has been ranked among the top-25 in each of the last two seasons and has played in three consecutive Bowl games. Last season the Bulls finished 9-4, their second straight 9-4 season, defeating then No. 5 West Virginia early in the season before going on to play the University of Oregon in the Sun Bowl.

"Playing these types of games was a part of our original five-year strategic plan when we started here," added third-year head coach Chuck Priore. "These games will give us an opportunity to continue to raise the level of our recruiting efforts while also challenging our student-athletes and staff. Competing against these institutions will help transition the Stony Brook football program to the next level of competition and prestige."

Stony Brook and Buffalo will square off on September 10, 2011 at UB Stadium in the first football meeting between the two largest schools in the SUNY (State University of New York) system. Last season the Bulls had their highest win total in the Division I history of the program and won a share of the Mid-American Conference East Division title.

On September 29, 2012, Stony Brook will travel up the Hudson River to take on one of the most storied college football programs in the nation when it plays Army. Similar to the other two FBS opponents that were announced, this game will be the first-ever football meeting between the Seawolves and the Black Knights.

Stony Brook will kick off the 2008 season at home on August 30 when it hosts Colgate University in Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
