

Pair Among Nine Student-Athletes Honored by the America East Conference
Cambridge, Mass. - A pair of Stony Brook University student-athletes were named as America East Scholar Athletes today when the conference released the list of honorees for the spring sports for the 2007-08 academic year. Sophomores Michael Stephan (Patchogue-Medford, N.Y.) of the baseball team and Ilan Shvartz (Haifa, Israel) from the men's tennis squad were among the nine student-athletes from around the conference honored today.
Shvartz earned All-America East honors for a second straight season in 2008 when he was named a first team selection at No. 3 singles. Shvartz turned in a 14-7 overall mark for the Seawolves, going 5-0 in his No. 3 matches. A member of the 2007-08 America East Commissioners Honor Roll, Shvartz was also one of two players selected to the America East All-Academic team for men's tennis.
A second team All-America East selection and an ABCA Northeast East Region first team honoree, Stephan started 59 of the Seawolves 60 games and finished the season ranked 12th in the nation in on-base percentage (.518) and second in the country in hit by pitch (30). He also led the team with 11 home runs and ranked second on the squad with 37 RBI and 49 runs scored as he helped the Seawolves win the America East title and make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
