FINAL STANDINGS
Seawolves Athletics Program Finishes Fourth in Final Cup Standings

Burlington, Vt. - Stony Brook University's Athletics Department turned in a strong overall season in 2008-09 and it showed in the final standings of the 2008-09 Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup, the award that annually recognizes the top overall athletics program in the America East Conference. Stony Brook finished fourth in the final standings, its best finish in the eight years that the Seawolves have been eligible for the award. The Seawolves finished with 275 points in the standings, finishing ahead of New Hampshire and trailing only Boston University, Albany and Binghamton.
After finishing in a tie for fifth a year ago, Stony Brook moved up a spot in the final standings on the strength of one conference championship, two regular season titles and seeing four teams finish second in their respective conference championships. The Seawolves picked up their conference championship in the fall when the women's cross country team won its second straight America East title before moving on to compete at the NCAA Championships for a second consecutive year as well. Stony Brook also picked up a solid showing in the fall by the women's soccer team which had its best showing since joining the league, finishing as the runner-up in the conference tournament.
Stony Brook's success continued in the winter season when its men's basketball team posted its best record and finish since joining the America East. Stony Brook capped off the school year with a spring season that saw its men's lacrosse and softball teams win regular season crowns, while the men's tennis and men's lacrosse teams both reached the conference finals in their sports.
